The ResMed Astral 100/150 recall and used Astral resale
ResMed is correcting Astral 100 and Astral 150 ventilators built before October 2024. This page states what the correction is, how to tell whether a unit is affected, what ResMed is doing, and what Ameristart does with affected units when they are bought or sold used.

What the recall is
A supercapacitor on the ventilator's main circuit board (the PCBA) may leak over time and damage the board. When that happens the ventilator can enter a protective, fail-safe state in which therapy stops and alarms sound.
ResMed's letter to patients was dated June 25, 2026. The FDA issued an early alert on July 15, 2026 and classified the correction as Class I, its most serious category, on July 31, 2026. As of June 23, 2026 ResMed had reported five serious injuries and no deaths.
Is my unit affected
The correction covers Astral 100 and Astral 150 ventilators built before October 2024, with serial numbers below 22241890149. ResMed's serial-number lists identify the affected units; the serial number is on the label on the underside of the device and on the device information screen.
Patients are told not to stop using the ventilator unless a clinician says so, and providers must keep backup ventilation available for patients on an affected unit.
What ResMed is doing
The correction is phased: inspection at authorized service centers and replacement of affected main boards, prioritized by patient risk. No single permanent fix has been announced yet, so the status of a given unit depends on whether its board has been replaced and documented.
Buying a used Astral now
Ameristart checks every Astral serial number against the affected list before listing. A unit in the affected range is listed as patient ready only when the main-board correction has been completed by an authorized service center and the documentation ships with the unit. Otherwise it is sold for parts, labeled as parts, and never as a working ventilator.
Every Astral listing carries a Recall row stating which of those applies, and the service-center paperwork is available on request before purchase. Ask for the screening result on any unit, from Ameristart or from anyone else.
Selling an Astral you own
A serviced, documented Astral holds its value: a patient-ready Astral 150 currently sells for about $4,000 – $4,500. An unserviced unit in the affected range sells as parts, at a fraction of that, until the correction is done. Where the correction is still open, that service is part of the service cost on the consignment Offer Sheet, so the consignor sees the expected sale price and payout before anything is listed.
